Our IRL this week will be Secondary Characters. Each night students will have to identify 1 secondary character and write one sentence answering the following question:

How does my secondary character interact with the main character and how do they affect the story?

Below is a picture of the discussion we had in class on secondary characters using our book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Ask your scholar about the book!

We are excited to take our first field trip of the school year to the Wylde Center in Decatur, GA on Friday, September 25th. Buses will leave promptly at 9:30 AM and will return to school at 2:00 PM. This trip will give students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of ecology with hands-on outdoor activities.

The cost of the field trip is $8.00. If you would like for your child to attend, please submit $8.00 and this completed form to your child’s homeroom teacher by Tuesday, September 22nd. Please let your me know if you have questions.

Thank you for helping to make our first field trip a success! Please note that for this field trip students WILL STILL HAVE TO WEAR THEIR UNIFORMS even if they can dress out that day.

Their DOJO points for this week will still count toward their grand total of the 150 goal to attend the ice cream party Friday the 25th

Grades

You all should have received an email from me highlighting the remainder of our academic quarter. In this e-mail I informed you of your scholars Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. If you did not receive this e-mail please let me know. If you have any questions, please let me know. BElow are some ways that students will be able to bring up their grades in the coming weeks:

In reading we will be working on a fluency and concept packet. This will need to be completed when scholars complete their just right book that they started today. I will hand out the packet to them tomorrow and they will work on it every day as they read their book. Also, I take frequent grades for homework and classwork. Our next reading test will be on our classroom read aloud Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. I will give scholars check in quizzes checking for comprehension, character tracking, and predictions.

In writing we are working on our narrative unit. We have been developing characters and I have been taking grades up for homework completion and accuracy. We will journey through the writing process until we finish our narrative piece. This will be the next major grade in writing. As we approach the due date, I will inform you.

In Social Studies we are working on our Native American unit. Students completed center work, which was graded, and did a great job researching each Native American tribe. We will be doing a lot more work with the tribes before we test the scholars on the material . In the meantime, we will be taking up grades for homework and classwork.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has donated supplies to our classroom. Thanks so much, everything helps so much!

Don’t forget that curriculum night is: Tuesday September 22, 5:45-7:00pm

Look in your scholar’s communication folder for Book Fair information soon. We are having our 1st Book Fair the week of Sept. 28th - Oct. 2nd

Thank you all for all that you do! If you all have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
