IRL SKILL: Show Don't Tell

Show don't tell means to show with your words what something looks and feels like instead of telling. Definition by Wisdom.

Student exmaple from Bryant and Demeitrus.

NON-Example: Chick-Fil-A has very good food.

Example: Chick-Fil-A has crispy, hot, and juicy chicken with warm buttered buns. As soon as I walk in I can smell the chicken and my mouth starts to water.

Students will look in their just right book and find one passage, 1-2 sentences, where the author is showing the reader something about the story in great detail. To earn full credit scholars must recopy the passage and write the page number on their IRL log. I have issued new logs today and students will be coming home with a new sheet this week.

Report cards are coming soon! All of the grades thus far will be counted in quarter 2 grades. Let's work together to get all of the IRLs completed every week!
