Important Updates

Hello all!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. Only 9 more days until Thanksgiving break, can you believe it?! Here are a few updates, reminders and some information to put us through to the break.

Narratives

I am SO proud of the scholars! They did such a good job with their narratives. We have some budding young authors in 4th grade this year. I have conferenced with each student about their grade and you should see their paper coming home with some additional graded work the Wednesday in their Wednesday folder. Many scholars have asked to revise their pieces for a better grade. As most adult author go through the revision process many times, I thought it appropriate to offer the scholars an additional opportunity to revise. I am happy to meet before and after school most days to help scholars if they need additional instruction or guidance. The revised copy will be due the Friday before break 11/20. The final grade, if scholars choose to revise will follow the formula below.

Original grade+new grade on revised paper/ 2= NEW GRADE

Fall Author Share

I am also thinking about an author share on the Friday before break 11/20. I would invite parents, guardians or special friends to enjoy a time to share work, stories, and refreshments. Would anyone be interested in coming or helping with this special day? Let me know so I can start planning for this celebration!

Weekly Homework

This week we are adding grammar work to the weekly homework. After reading the narratives i pinpointed some common problems that we could tackle together. I will be checking for completion randomly for a grade sometime during the week. it is vital that students complete there nightly homework. This includes IRL, Words their Way, and grammar study. We will be going over the gramma study as a warm-up every morning. As always IRL's are due Monday so that they include the weekend reading, and Words Their Way will be due Friday before the scholars spelling tests.

Kindness Challenge

We are working very hard to be kind to one another in our small school family. Students have a calendar that they have decorated that they will be recording random acts of kindness on for the remainder of the month. Please encourage them to complete some of these tasks at home!

Social Studies

Our european explorers unit is wrapping up and we ill be reviewing the material Wednesday and Thursday in class. Look for study materials Thursday night because they will be tested on Friday 11/13. Ask your scholar to tell you about the explorers and show your our hand signals for each one.

DOJO

Please check Class DOJO on a regular basis to see important screenshots of homework and the activities we are doing each day. Remember I am putting pictures up on DOJO now instead of the blog because it is more secure.

Language Arts

We are diving deeper into our Nonfiction unit and the scholars really seem to love researching about topics they love. We are going to be conducting research for the next 2 weeks. If you do not have access to technology at home, please let me know. I would be more than happy to stay with scholars after school or allot them time in class to access the internet for their research if they need more time.
