Thursday: Stomp Out Bullying- Wear Your favorite Boots or Sneakers

Reading and Writing- We are still working on our non-fiction unit. Scholars are becoming quite the young researchers! Ask them about their topic. We will be investigating different sources this week while continuing how to read non-fiction literature.

IRL: Students are to complete their IRL FOR ANY 3 DAYS THIS WEEK. It will be taken for a grade Friday November 20th. They also have WTW assignments and grammar to complete. This is all DUE FRIDAY. We went over all of the expectations today in class.

Social Studies- This week we are jumping into our new Social Studies Unit: British Colonial America.

This week we will be working on the introduction to the colonies and conduction some in class research.

Here is the overview provided by the Curriculum Team:

Social Studies Curricular Unit: British Colonial America

Relevant Standards:

  • SS4H3 The student will explain the factors that shaped British colonial America.

a. Compare and contrast life in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies.

b. Describe colonial life in America as experienced by various people, including large landowners, farmers, artisans, women, indentured servants, slaves, and Native Americans.

  • SS4G2c. Explain how the physical geography of the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies helped determine economic activities practiced therein.

  • SS4E1b. Explain how price incentives affect people’s behavior and choices (such as colonial decisions about what crops to grow and products to produce).

  • SS4E1c. Describe how specialization improves standards of living (such as the differences in the economies in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies).

  • SS4E1d. Explain how voluntary exchange helps both buyers and sellers (such as prehistoric and colonial trade in North America).

Enduring Understandings:

  • What does it mean to be a colony?

  • How was life different and/or similar in the different regions of the British colonies?

  • How was life different and/or similar for different types of people living in the British colonies?

  • How did the geography of each region influence how people lived?
